It was finally here..State!
We packed up and headed to Lexington!
We arrived at State full of nerves and high expectations!
Riggs had on his lucky hat....
I had on my lucky necklace......
But mostly we were happy to finally be here! Every practice....every meet had brought us here to this moment!
We walked the course and discussed race strategy.....
7 boys...one race....one winner....
It was freezing....and windy....but finally the sweats and hoodies were pulled off and it was time to get ready to run!
The gun sounded....and they were off.....
running with all they had.....the weight of the team somehow riding on these 7 little boys....
When it was over...Riggs disappeared into the crowd....he ran well, but it wasn't the race he had played in his head....He finally got it together and was ready to be called up on stage for his individual award.
But all the disappointment was erased when they called the team winner!
Goshen had won State!
and our boys and our team were so full of joy!
and the Hardy family was...well....it's hard to put into words how much this meant to us....
Colin called to see the results...so sad he had to miss out on all of this....
but Riggs shared it with the Jacks!
That night we celebrated at the Bolingers!
What a day.....and what a way to end his elementary XC career! You have come a long way, baby!
