Goshen had been planning a XC assembly to recognize the runners and celebrate the boys winning State. It has been moved and canceled due to snow days but today it finally happened! Being recognized with his team in front of the school really meant a lot to him. He was so excited even though he really didn't feel good. They called the runners down...and specifically pointed out the top seven runners on the team. Riggs ran down when they called his name and slapped waiting hands as he ran by...part of a team he loves...with friends he cares for.
He was recognized as being on the All State team for XC...and as the fastest 3rd grader in the state of Kentucky. I was so proud of him...mostly because he was happy with himself.Mrs. Howard watched this unfold in the assembly...as Riggs ran to join his team with his newly found confidence...as he was recognized for not only trying hard, but also.... for the first time ....for being great. She later sent me a text that said this: I can't lie...got a little teary eyed during the assembly....so proud of Riggs!!! That meant so much to me...she has no idea how much she had to do with him believing in himself. I will forever be thankful for her love and guidance with this tender hearted boy.
He is a changed boy...still shy...still unsure...but so much more confident than he ever has been. He is still finding his way but yes...that kid in the Hardy sweatshirt is Riggs...and yes, he is doing the Macarena! You've come a long way, baby!
After the assambly I could see he was fading...fever back... we signed him out and headed home..his little body was tired but his heart was full of joy!
