We headed to Lexington today for a XC meet to see how these kids compared to some of the other schools in the state...we were excited and the day was gorgeous...sunshine with a touch of fall in the air! Perfect weather for a run! The kids were excited and a little nervous! Again we had to run against 6th graders...and for Riggs it was his first 3K! Jeremy was in San Fransisco but Grandpa went with me to root him on! We watched the girls run and they were amazing... and then we got ready for the boys race. Riggs was in the back of the pack when the gun went off...and off he ran across the bluegrass...past a horse farm...and I lost sight of him and had to wait until he emerged from the woods...and when he did he was flying...he was giving it his all and he had so much to give! He said it was the best he had ever felt in a race! Distance is his friend and that is a great thing since the rest of the meets from here to state are 3K.
He came in 13th overall and 4th on the team...he got another medal and was pleased as punch! I am still in awe of watching him run and how good he is....it is just beyond amazing to watch this boy excel....and how it has opened him up to an "i can" attitude. He told me before he went to bed on Friday night that he talked to Mrs. Parrott about what he needed to do to get a better grade in science...he took the initiative to do that...to be better...I am so impressed with him and so proud of him!
The boys came in second to Hite...who have 6th graders on their team...so in my book they were the Champions! They added another trophy to the Goshen Trophy Case and it was a great meet!
